Detail Itinerary

Day 1: Kathmandu

In the morning, the journey begins at Durbar Square, the spiritual heart of Kathmandu. This historic site features the old royal palace surrounded by ancient temples and significant architecture.

Next, you will visit Swayambhunath, the oldest and most important site of Buddhist worship in Nepal. This landmark is famous for the eyes of Buddha, which face all four directions to observe the world.

The tour continues to Bodnath, the largest stupa in Nepal and one of the largest spherical stupas in the world. Its massive mandala is surrounded by over 50 gompas built by the local Tibetan community.

Finally, you will proceed to Pashupatinath, the country’s most significant Hindu pilgrim site. Located on the banks of the Bagmati River, this temple city is dedicated to Lord Shiva.

The day concludes with an overnight stay at the hotel.

Himalayan Flight and Ancient Cities

An optional morning flight over the Himalayas is available upon request (250 USD per person). This one-hour flight departs from Kathmandu, providing a panoramic, eye-level encounter with the highest peaks on earth, including breathtaking views of the snow-capped giants.

After breakfast, travel to Patan, historically the second-largest town in the valley. Renowned for its unique temple architecture, the city’s Durbar Square is filled with ancient palaces and shrines famous for their exquisite carvings. The former royal palace complex serves as the hub of religious life and houses a museum featuring a significant collection of bronze statues and religious artifacts.

The journey continues to Bhaktapur, the valley’s third-largest city. Bhaktapur is celebrated for having preserved its medieval character more authentically than any other city in the region.

The day ends with an overnight stay at the hotel.

Tachogang Lhakhang Bridge On the journey, stop at Tachoggang, a historic site situated across the Paro River. Adorned with numerous prayer flags, the traditional iron bridge offers a scenic walk toward the temple. This bridge is a significant architectural landmark steeped in local history.

Simtokha Dzong Located five miles from Thimphu on a prominent ridge, Simtokha Dzong is the oldest fortress in the Kingdom. Its strategic position provides a panoramic view of the Thimphu Valley. Unique among Bhutanese fortresses, its central tower features 12 sides and the courtyard walls are decorated with intricate carvings.

Dordenma Buddha Visit Kuensel Phodrang to view the tallest seated Buddha statue in the world. Standing at an impressive 51.5 meters, this massive bronze monument overlooks the valley and serves as a major focal point of Bhutanese spirituality.

Wangdi-tse Monastery Enjoy an easy 90-minute hike through dense pine forests, local apple orchards, and traditional homes. This trail is family-friendly and offers views of the Dordenma Buddha and Tashichoe Dzong. The path, lined with oak and rhododendron, leads to the Wangditse Temple, from where you can continue to Dechenphodrang Monastery to observe the daily lives of young monks.

500th Anniversary Farmers’ Market The Thimphu Weekend Market is a vibrant hub active from Thursday to Sunday near the Wang Chhu river. It features a diverse array of regional goods, including aromatic incense, exotic spices, local honey, and red rice cereal. After exploring the food stalls, you can cross the traditional bridge to browse the weekend handicraft market for unique local treasures.

Spiritual Retreat in Northern Thimphu

Pangri Zampa Monastery Travel to the northern edge of the Thimphu Valley for a rural experience off the beaten path. This site houses the Buddhist Astrological Academy, where visitors can learn about ancient celestial traditions and even consult with a resident monk regarding Buddhist astrology. The area also features the peaceful 21 Tara Devi Temple, offering a serene environment for reflection before beginning the trek to Dodeydra.

Dodeydrak Buddhist Monastery Embark on a soul-stirring uphill trek to the sacred grounds of Dodeydra Monastery. The climb offers breathtaking panoramic views and a deep sense of tranquility. Once at the Dodeydra Goempa, guests are invited to immerse themselves in the monastic lifestyle by praying alongside the monks and sharing a traditional meal.

This extraordinary spiritual journey provides opportunities for Dharma discussions and personal connection with the monastic community. During the visit, guests may also receive a traditional blessing from the monks, intended as a ritual for purification and personal transformation.

Dodeydrak Buddhist Monastery Wake up to the tranquil sounds of nature and the morning bell summoning the community to devotion. Begin the day by joining the monks for their traditional morning prayers at the monastery before descending the hillside to return to Thimphu.

Dochula Pass On the drive toward Punakha, stop at the scenic Dochu La Pass, situated at an elevation of 3,100 meters. This site is home to 108 memorial chortens (Buddhist shrines). On a clear day, the pass offers a spectacular panoramic view of the towering Himalayan peaks to the northeast. You may also participate in the local tradition of raising prayer flags at this high-altitude point.

Chimi Lhakhang Temple Take a short walk from Sopsokha village to reach Chimi Lhakhang, a site famous for its unique history and colorful local artwork. Popularly known as the Temple of the Divine Madman or the Fertility Temple, it remains a significant pilgrimage site for those seeking blessings for children and protection.

Punakha Dzong Explore the majestic Punakha Dzong, an architectural masterpiece located at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. Serving as the capital of Bhutan until 1955, it remains the winter residence of the central monastic body. This fortress holds immense historical value as the site where Bhutan’s first king was crowned in 1907. Despite facing numerous natural disasters over the centuries, the structure has been meticulously restored, preserving its most sacred relics and statues.
